Freezer Burn - Hello from the Freezer Burn LNT Team

We deeply respect the farmland Freezer Burn is held on, and we are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities & leaving the land better than we found.

Leave No Trace (shortened to LNT), is one of the 10 Principles of Burning Man and is everyone's responsibility! Here are a few ways that you, as a participant, can make sure Freezer Burn 2025 is the least MOOPy year yet! Please check out our new website addition,

https://www.freezerburn.org/moop-maps

  • Unless it is literally growing from the ground - its MOOP. Matter Out of Place (MOOP) is anything not originally from the land.
  • The best time to start thinking about MOOP is while you are packing to come to Freezer Burn! Costumes that shed? Degrading tarps? Food in wrappers? Sharing a watermelon at camp? Assess what you are packing and think 'will this make MOOP?', yes = leave it at home or make a solid LNT plan.
  • You are expected to pack out everything you bring in which means you will need waste bins (we suggest 3, garbage, recycle, food waste) & a plan once you are off site to dispose of your garbage. Absolutely no garbage is to be left on site, including recycling.
  • Carry a MOOP bag with you! If it hits the ground and you see it, it is your responsibility as a participant to pick it up.
  • We all use the common areas (streets, camps, portos, trails, etc), make sure to take some time helping clean these areas. It's a great way to show thanks to our amazing volunteers and entertainment providers & only takes a few minutes.
  • Here is a helpful entry from the Burning Man Journal about Moop Sweeps and LNT!

Try your best? Don’t worry ~ The LNT team has your back! We make sure the farmland is ready for the goat-mowers by getting the minimal amount of leftover “stuff” left after everyone else has departed. This effort is our last sweep to see how well our participants did with de-MOOPing & ensures that we do in fact “Leave No Trace”.

We appreciate the heck out of the many hands needed to make this happen, and If land stewardship is something important to you, there are a few more volunteer openings.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email FreezerburnLNT@gmail.com

When we camped as kids (circa 1970-1980), my mothers mantra was “LEAVE IT BETTER THAN YOU FOUND IT”. Before we set up, we picked up cig butts, can tabs, any any other MOOP. And before we drove off after packing up? Same drill. I whole heartedly believe in this practice wherever you are. Get on board everyone!!! 😁

LNT is easy. Just pick it up folks, it doesn’t belong there. By leaving the land better than we found it provides us with the ability to keep coming back to such a magical place!
