The revelry and release against the knowing that just out of frame are flames. Even the effigy itself seems to celebrate its last moments with carefree abandon.
And why not? What is joy without loss? Does the distinct moment of burning not distill our individual and shared human emotions into a singular, indescribable sensation?Or is it better to throw up our hands and, as Sally says, simply agree that “It’s just a really cool picture!”
