FREEZER BURN 2025 ART GRANT TIP SHEET

We need to remember that this festival is based on self-reliance. Ultimately this grant is meant to support art projects, not necessarily fully fund them. Participants are responsible for getting their projects to Freezer Burn, not the Freezer Burn Art Grant team.

What we do fund:

Interactive Art - For example, we will consider funding visual or interactive art pieces that will be displayed at a sound stage or theme camp (or anywhere else at Freezer Burn) but we won’t fund the infrastructure or activities there.

▪ Art related to the theme, and art not related to the theme

▪ Mobile art – we will support Mutant Vehicles -will only fund the artistic piece of the art car - not car infrastructure

▪ Art for a theme camp

▪ Sound Stages - can include generator and specialized equipment rentals

What we do not fund:

▪ Activities or performances

▪ No more than 50% of grant for fuel or transportation costs.

▪ Payment for DJs or performers

▪ Tickets to Freezer Burn

▪ Domes, tents, teepees or stage construction

▪ Personal outfits and costumes

▪ Theme camp’s personal sound systems or technical support pieces, structural & infrastructural pieces

▪ Food, alcohol, cannabis.

▪ Anything illegal in the province of Alberta. While Freezer Burn is a private event, we are still governed by the laws of the province of Alberta.

Items that work in their favour to receive an art grant:

● Did you seek other funding opportunities?

- Have you held fundraisers for this project?

- Have you applied for other types of grants?

● If you answered YES, will you continue complete the art project even if you do not get an art grant

● That you plan to use the piece again at other festivals or events rather than keeping it themselves

Considerations:

● What are the bare essentials of your art project? It is better to fund the bare essentials of art grants to spread the money around.

● If an individual has submitted more than one grant or a camp has submitted more than one grant, when necessary, we would ask if they would consider having only one project funded
